The magic of Hawaii and the magic of photography really complement each other on the Big Island. The stark lava flows create an eerie environment that can be off-putting to some visitors. I see the beauty and want to capture every aspect of this young island’s existence. The rough, sharp shards of lava that cover the western side of the island and jut out into the Pacific reveal a turbulent birth to this island and remind us that it is still growing. The western beach, Wailea, is a white sand beach that is part of the National Park Service. What better way to capture it’s primal beauty that by using a long exposure.
